The History of Southall SDA Church
Here we will tell the story of the beginnings of our church and how we became what we are today.
1967 (Southall Community Centre)
Southall Company started out with NINE individuals of vision and purpose, namely, Mr D Bedford (deceased), Mrs M Bedford (deceased), A Brookes, D Craigg, L Craigg, Mrs S Joseph, G Robinson (deceased), L Robinson and M Sylvester (deceased). Members stemmed from Chiswick SDA (Alexanders, Belingys, Cornwalls, Edwards, Keith Francis and Sydney Samuel) and Ealing SDA (A Brookes, Bedfords, Morgans and G Robinson) churches. The journey is in full swing.
1977 (St George's "Cold Church")
Officially known as the Wanderers, they journeyed to another building, St George's "Cold Church", Lancaster Road. Wanderers in the Wilderness remained at the Cold Church for ten years. Experiences include from wearing double clothing to members turning up with portable heaters, particularly to keep children warm, during Sabbath School classes. There are long-lasting memories here.
1987 (Boyd Avenue)
We have arrived (well at least almost). Some committed members put their heads together and took out a mortgage (A Alexander, C Alexander and G Mark) in order to secure what was then the first big step of owning a building. The South England Conference (SEC) decided at the last minute to purchase the building for the church. However the tug of war was great as tradesmen from the nearby market, wanted to work up a deal with the borrowers. In particular, Pr Cuthell along with other hard working members got their hands dirty to produce Southall SDA Church...but not for long. God had another plan in store.
1988 (North Road Hall (THEN))
Canaan at Last - we have arrived! O the way is long and weary and the bleeding feet - pretty sore. So many sleepless nights in getting the work started. The late Pr Cuthbert was instrumental in acquiring this building as he met with the Trustees and convinced them to sell it to the Seventh Day Adventist. The late Gary Mark responsible for the groundbreaking; Martin George was used to lie in the baptismal pool to ensure that the builders had the correct length (and width). The benches came from the Cold Church - and of course the Lord was leading.
2007 (North Road Hall)
To date we are here at a DEBT FREE Church! To God be the Glory, great things He hath done! We now have men and ladies toilets, rear double storey extension, storage rooms, kitchen, fully furnished building with mod cons. The next phase of the building project is to erect a front double-storey extension which would further improve our building and increase out seating capacity. There's just so much to thank God for. Yes the way has been long and weary and our bleeding feet, sore. It is not that far to Canaan's land. Hold on!
We used Southall Pentecostal Church for a short while.
We used Villiers High School for a limited period of time.
2011 (North Road Hall)
October 2011 - move out to start the next phase of the building project to erect a front double-storey extension which would further improve our building and increase out seating capacity. We completed 3 years out of our own building, worshipping at the Community Centre, Fleming Road, while the build work was undertaken.
2015 (North Road Hall)
Back in our own building, but many things still need to be completed.
